Week 6, Term 4 Newsletter

17th November 2023

Kia ora Clive whānau,

At this time of year we are running full steam towards planning what the 2024 school year will look like. Class placements, staff movements and strategic directions are all on the go.

In 2024 we will have some changes to our team. Mrs Jane Smith (Rm 1) has decided to slow down and enjoy a bit more time to herself. Some may call it semi-retirement, Jane is calling it time with her family and getting to know her golf clubs a bit more. She will still be seen around our school as a reliever, but just not as much as she currently is. Jane has been instrumental in the development of so many of our Clive kids (and adults), we wish her a relaxing semi-retirement, a drop in her golf handicap and look forward to welcoming her back next year as a reliever.

Miss Becky Koch (Rm 8) has also decided to seek new challenges. Becky has been a huge asset to our school with all her involvement in sports organisation and our Senior school. Her organisational skills, student, whānau and staff relationships will certainly be missed. Becky is looking forward to new challenges and we wish her all the very best. We are sure she will go far!

Dee Nichol our dedicated teacher aide, mostly seen in the junior school is also moving on to focus on her own business and to support her son in his new restaurant venture opening in Napier. Dee has been an amazing support to so many of our Junior students and our staff. We wish her well and thank her for everything she has done for our school.

I am sure you will all join the Board and I in thanking Jane, Becky and Dee for their amazing work in our school and the profound impacts they have all had working with our tamariki. We will farewell them properly at the end of year prize giving.

Whilst not moving on, it is wonderful to announce that Miss Rochelle Witbrock (3W) has accepted a permanent position with us. Rochelle will continue in the New Entrants in 2024 alongside Sherryl Scott.

We will also be welcoming a new face to our team, working in Room 1. Miss Rebecca Start is set to join our team in the new year. Rebecca joins us from Greenmeadows school. With a passion for the Arts and a wealth of experience across the school we look forward to her joining our team.

We are pretty close to finalising student placements for the 2024 school year. Once confirmed you will receive a letter from your child's 2024 classroom teacher introducing themselves. In weeks 9 & 10 we are organising some transition visits with students and staff so they get to know each other before the Christmas break. This is designed to alleviate any worries they may have during the summer holidays.

Noho ora mai

Whole school Tabloid sports day:
What a blast we had on Wednesday with the whole school participating as whānau groups (a mix of ages) in tabloid sports.
What is tabloids I hear you ask? Rotations of fun relay-type activities where our older students support our younger students (and vice versa) to complete the tasks. Think sack races, hurdles, leaky bucket carry etc.

Such great fun and an amazing relationship-building activity.

Our next school event is the Athletics on Friday the 24th November.
