Week 8, Term 3 Newsletter

8th September 2023

Kia ora Clive whānau,

Challenge, stepping outside their comfort zone, new experiences and for some their first nights away from home.

This is camp week for our Senior pupils.

The most amazing opportunity to grow, dig deep, laugh, cry and enjoy new experiences with friends, classmates, teachers and parents.

What a week!

A short message from me this week as I will let the photos of our students do all the talking as I bounce between school, meetings and joining in all the fun.

Noho ora mai

Camp Week: Year 6 Ranui Farm Park and Year 5 Napier and Matahiwi Marae
What an amazing week we have had with our Year 6 students attending Ranui Farm Park for their School camp. This was our second attempt at camp this year with Cyclone Gabrielle putting a stop to our first booking at Guthrie Smith in Tutira.
Our students were pushed outside their comfort zones, undertaking lots of activities designed to challenge, build team work and just have a great time.
As always we needed an army of parents to assist our teachers, a huge thanks to all those who took time off work, donated food and enabled this experience to take place.
Likewise our amazing Senior School teachers who made this all possible. Camps require a huge amount of planning, organisation and a lot of hours on top of their usual teaching and planning time. A huge thanks to Becky, Sacha, Adam, Mike and Sherryl for all their work to make this happen.

As I write our Year 5's are out on their camp experience in Napier, before heading to Matahiwi Marae tonight. On Friday they tackle more activities in the morning and then Te Mata Peak our Maunga in the afternoon.

Camps, like everything, are becoming increasingly expensive to run and are one of the few things we can request parents contribute to in terms of covering the costs. Our Friends of School need a special mention here as they have donated $2,000.00 towards reducing the overall costs to parents for these camps along with a further $2,000.00 for both the Junior and Middle Schools to undertake professional swimming lessons. A massive thanks to our FRIENDS OF SCHOOL volunteers who do all the hard mahi to raise money and give these opportunities to our tamariki!

An army of kids and parents also eat a whole lot of meat. A massive thanks to Beard Brothers for their donation of all the meat we took away on camp. They were amazing hamburger patties and sausages. Thanks heaps Lara and Rob!
Spaces are available for music tuition. Please contact Rob at Napier Music Academy directly
Good luck to Harry who is onstage as Benji in the Priscilla Queen of the Desert Stage production. Tickets are available now!

Beginning of Year 2024 Out of Zone Enrolments

The Board invites applications from those who reside outside our school zone to enrol their children at Clive School during Terms One and Two of the 2024 school year to submit an application.

Those wishing to apply for an out of Zone child to start later in 2024 may also apply now for the process to be held later in the 2024 school year (August/September).

Enrolment is governed by an enrolment scheme, details of which are available on our website and from the school office, along with application forms (phone 06 870 0538 or admin@clive.school.nz)

The deadline for receipt of applications for out of zone children is Monday 18th September 2023.

Parents of students in our zone should also let us know of students due to arrive at school as this helps us with our planning for the years ahead.

The Board has determined that THIRTY FIVE (35) places are to be available for out of zone children for the start of the 2024 school year. Details may be found on our website www.cliveschool.co.nz/enrolment/

If the number of out-of-zone applications exceeds places, students will be selected by ballot. If required this will be held on Tuesday 19th September.

Parents will be informed of the outcome by Thursday 21st September 2023.

If you would like to book an appointment to visit our school we would love to show you what Clive has to offer: 06 870 0538
