Week 10, Term 2 Newsletter

30th June 2023

Kia ora Clive whānau,

The end of Term 2 is upon us. My hope is the rain is now behind us and the school holidays are filled with sunshine to dry out our field.

Term 2 has been a busy term, with Term 3 shaping up much the same. For those of you who have not yet booked Parent, Teacher conferences please see the information on how to book below (it is not too late!).

Our focus next term will be exploring the world of visual arts. Our theme for this unit will be "FROM THE MOUNTAINS TO THE SEA". There will be a community celebration in week 10 to show off all the amazing work our tamariki create. For now our staff are busy planning lots of exciting art activities and projects for you to enjoy.

Our Matariki celebration is set to occur again next term with the Matariki Disco being held on Friday 28th July in the school hall. Like last year, our students will also be creating a lantern display to be enjoyed once it gets dark. If you have any clean glass jars at home, please drop them into the office (with labels removed). We need one per child so please keep collecting over the holidays!

To coincide with the Matariki disco we will also be running a whānau hui in Rooms 8 and 9 for parents and caregivers to share your thoughts on how we can best support our tamariki in their learning journey. This will also allow you to have your input into our Board of Trustees strategic direction and how we can support our Maori tamariki to achieve as Maori. More information will come out at the beginning of next term.

For now, enjoy the next two weeks with your children in the sun (positive forecasting here!) and we look forward to seeing everyone in Term 3.

Noho ora mai

Board of Trustees Update: Presiding Member Change

Our Board of Trustees met on Monday evening for our fourth meeting of the year. At this meeting Sarah Becket stood down as Board Presiding member as had been planned from the beginning of this year. Sarah has been an exceptional Board Presiding member leading our school and community through the last three years. Whilst Sarah is no longer the Presiding Member she remains on our Board of Trustees until the end of this year. We thank Sarah for all her efforts in her tenure as the head of our school and community.

Congratulations to Hamish Hargest, who has been elected as the new Board Presiding Member. We look forward to Hamish leading our Board into the future.

A reminder that our Board of Trustees meetings are an open forum with our community welcome to attend. There is a mid term election planned for April 2024, so if you have ever wondered what goes on at a Board meeting and would like to get involved please come along to our next meeting to be held on Monday 31st July at 5:30 in the school library.
